WebOps / Design & Strategy
Strategy that connects your goals to the platform built to deliver them.
Before we build anything, we need to understand what you are trying to achieve. Our design and strategy engagements connect your business goals, your team’s operating model, and your audience’s needs into a platform that works from day one.

How we approach design and strategy
Good design starts with understanding the problem, not designing the solution.
Most web projects start too early. Someone has a rough idea, a designer starts mocking things up, and six weeks later everyone is reacting to visuals without agreeing on what success looks like.
We start differently. Strategy is the first deliverable, not an optional add-on. We connect what your business needs, how your team works, and what your audience actually does before anyone opens a design tool.

Business context
Understand your business context.
Who are your customers, how do they make decisions, and what role does your website play in that journey? We start with what matters to you, not what looks good in a portfolio.
Operating model
Map your team’s operating model.
How does your marketing, content, and development team actually work? The platform needs to fit them, not the other way around.
Audit what exists
Understand what is already there.
What is working on your current platform, what is broken, and what your audience is actually doing, before anyone sketches a wireframe.
What a design and strategy engagement includes
From discovery through to design system.
Shared understanding
Discovery & stakeholder alignment
We run structured discovery sessions to capture business goals, user needs, content requirements, and technical constraints. The output is a shared understanding of what the platform needs to do, and why.
Structure
Information architecture
Site structure, navigation, content hierarchy, and page templates designed around how your audience navigates and how your team publishes. Getting this right upfront saves significant rework during build.
Tested early
User experience design
CMS migrations where the stakes are real: content, SEO equity, and uptime all at risk simultaneously. Drupal upgrades, Drupal to WordPress, WordPress to headless. We plan for what can go wrong before we write a line of code.
Brand-aligned
Visual design
Brand-aligned visual design that gives your platform a distinctive identity without sacrificing usability or performance. We work within your brand guidelines or help you evolve them.
The handoff document
Design system & component library
Every design engagement produces a documented component library that developers and editors can work from. This is the handoff that makes build predictable and maintenance straightforward.
WCAG 2.1 AA
Accessibility & compliance
Accessibility built in throughout design, not bolted on at the end. If your platform serves a regulated industry or government audience, this is a requirement, not a preference.
What a strategic approach protects you from
The design-only path is a trap.
When strategy is skipped or rushed, the consequences show up late and cost more than the strategy would have. Teams inherit platforms they did not expect to operate. Content models that do not match editorial workflows. Navigation structures that made sense in a deck but frustrate real users. We have seen this often enough that we made strategy the first deliverable.
Our previous agency gave us a beautiful site we can’t update.
We launched and then realised the content structure doesn’t work for our SEO.
Our team still needs a developer to change the homepage banner.
For projects that cannot fail
When it has to work. We deliver.
Tell us what you are working on. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit, and what a strong engagement looks like.
Frequently asked questions.
Design and strategy, answered.
What does a web design and strategy engagement include?
Typically: discovery workshops, information architecture, UX wireframes, visual design, and a documented component library. Scope varies by project size. We define deliverables explicitly at the start of every engagement so there are no surprises about what is and is not included.
How is your design process different from other agencies?
We start with your business context and your team’s operating model before anyone opens a design tool. The platforms we design are built to be maintained by the teams that own them, not handed over as finished objects.
Do you work within existing brand guidelines?
Yes. We work within your existing brand guidelines or help you evolve them as part of the engagement. We do not impose a house style.
How long does a design and strategy engagement take?
A full discovery through to design system engagement typically runs eight to twelve weeks for a mid-market site. Discovery alone can be completed in two to three weeks if a faster timeline is needed. We scope every engagement specifically.
Can Digital Polygon handle design and build?
Yes. Most of our engagements run design and build as a continuous process. The design system produced in the strategy phase becomes the blueprint for the build phase.
